British girl group FLO has been making waves with their nostalgic Y2K R&B sound since their debut, and as they prepare to open for Kehlani on a major North American tour, FLO is shaking things up with their latest release, "Check".
This new track is very.. PinkPantheress meets the Ghost Town DJ’s. It marks a departure from their signature style, showcasing the group's versatility and growth. "Check" features sultry vocals from all the ladies Jorja, Stella, and Renée, who trade verses and harmonies with ease.
The hook is heavily inspired by Kelly Rowland's 2007 hit "Still In Love With My Ex". FLO's chorus borrows the same sultry, emotive essence from the pre-chorus of Rowland's song, which has become a timeless R&B classic. This clever homage seamlessly blends old and new, resulting in a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
In the music video, directed by Troy Roscoe (the mastermind behind vids for Burna Boy, Glorilla, and Stormzy), FLO is throwin' a slumber party. They're talkin' truth or dare, pillow fights, and gettin' real about what they need in a man. The video's colorful, high-energy, and straight-up fun. It's the perfect match for the song's infectious beat and unapologetic lyrics.
